THEY are the shoes that are definitely top of the FOOTSIE index.

Because these Eternal Diamond Stilettoes have gone up for sale in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter – at a cool pounds 100,000 a pair.

The spectacular shoes are the most expensive in the world, having been made entirely from solid gold and encrusted with 2,200 diamonds.

They were created for The House of Borgezie by owner Christopher Michael Shellis, who also runs three shops in the Jewellery Quarter.

“I had the idea about five years ago,” says the jewellery designer and manufacturer.

”Shoes are something women find totally irresistible and I wanted a way of showcasing my skills of goldsmithing, diamond-setting and design in a way that was really attractive.”

Christopher, 52 and from Quinton, already has orders from ‘three celebrities’.

The father-oftwo refuses to name potential owners of his shoes. But the likes of Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Tweedy and even infamous shoe collector Imelda Marcos could be in the frame.

“I can’t name the celebrities because they’ll cancel the order or demand I pay pounds 15,000 to use their name!” smiles Christopher.

“All I can say is they are VERY high-profile people.”

As well as being breath-takingly gorgeous, Christopher claims to have made the fabulous footwear comfortable too.

He says: “The shoes have compression soles and special rubber under the heels and the balls of the feet, making them curve when you walk, giving them an orthopaedic benefit.

“Models have worn them for 12 hour stretches and are amazed by how comfortable they are. We made 10 prototypes before we got to the final product because we couldn’t launch them if they weren’t practical.

“Things like the Faberg egg are beautiful but they have no real use. I wanted something that was comfortable and practical.”

Christopher is also giving a 1,000-year guarantee on his dazzling heels.

“Unlike some shoes which have diamonds sewn onto them, ours are soldered on so they cannot be destroyed,” he said
